about
As you may have come to understand by being here, The DisUnschool Database was created to be a community database (and possibly future archive!) for disabled people that provides a list of deschooling and self-directed education (SDE) resources. This comes from a emphasis on parental, caregiving anti-oppressive heart work for and with (our) young people. May our movement continue to flow and interrupt systems of abuse.
And as for the person who first designed this space and if you ever reach out to DisUnschool, that would be me, Jo, who you're communicating with. Some quick facts: I'm a queer mother, artist and a neurodivergent Chicana homebody raising my autistic young adult in California. We left conventional schooling in 2018. I soon realized our world could move beyond "school at home". This entire concept and process continues to blossom into larger, connective ways with not only the partnership with my son but with others too.
